From the idea to the web application
The original idea for gloveler was developed in a university seminar. The assignment was to write a business plan under the topic of the "knowledge-society". We pondered on where insider knowledge was really needed most. Being avid travelers, the idea emerged almost necessarily. When staying in foreign countries, who can better help a traveler with insider knowledge than a local inhabitant?. Getting together with locals is bound to bring you the deepest insights on your trip. We combined this with the mechanism of the free market and formed the core of our idea: gloveler.com - global traveler's exchange.
Not only were we thrilled by the idea, the judges in the business plan competion NewBizCup were as well. After winning the contest in our university, we made it to the finals in Stuttgart.
Writing a business plan and founding a real business are two rather different challenges. We decided to go for the real thing and developed this service. It should help you to get in touch with other like-minded people around the world. We hope you like our service and are happy to receive your feedback.
The Founders
Armin Harbrecht, Founder
Armin holds a Diploma in Business Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe and a MBA from Union Graduate College, Schenectady, NY. Before gloveler.com, Armin co-founded HOLZundEISEN, Germany’s first urban golf label. His trips led him to five continents. When Armin travels, he prefers to stay in private homes or on some couches of friendly locals. Specifically, he is a fan of the original and cheap private homes (called "chastni kvartiri") at the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria. Currently, Armin loves exploring the beautiful landscape along the river Rhine with his bicycle.
Andreas Sperber, Founder
During the development of gloveler.com, Andreas had a 24 hour working day due to the time shift between Germany, Newcastle and NSW, where Andreas studied for a year. His variety of skills makes him a specialist in every field of business. Thus, he is the head developer of gloveler.com and also does the companie's finances. Andreas is of Spanish and German heritage and also speaks English and French. The passionate oarsman lived for half a year in France, when he was doing an internship within the famous A380 program of Airbus in Toulouse. You can track his travel experiences on his blog. And of course he stayed most of the time in private homes and bnbs.
Marco Umfahrer, Founder
Marco holds a Diploma in Business Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe. His diploma thesis dealt with prosumption and crowdsourcing. The findings are used for the development of the platform. Like the other founders, Marco was part of the managing board of Delta e.V. - for student management consulting. He was head of Public Relations from 2006-2007. His favorite travel destination is Bella, Italy, where he likes to stay in private vacation homes. His favorite means of transportation is his car, which he nearly managed to exchange with Lewis Hamilton during his internship at McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 in the UK.
