History – gloveler

The Idea

gloveler team

The founders of gloveler have a passionate love for travel.
From his trip to Bulgaria, Armin Harbrecht brought back a bold vision: at the dusty train station in Sozopol, Bulgarians young and old awaited tired tourists with cardboard signs advertising private rooms or apartments.

So far, our team has stayed in private accommodations in five continents. They are cheap, conveniently located, and offer an unforgettable, personal sense of hospitality. Plus, locals usually offer the best tips and recommendations for travelers. Not even hotels or travel guides can keep up.

Unfortunately, private accommodations can often be hard to find, and even harder to book conveniently.

A centralized network for travelers and hosts via an integrated online platform is gloveler’s solution. This powerful idea, born in a university seminar, cast a spell on its soon-to-be founders, and enchanted local and international judges at various entrepreneurship and business competitions.

Our vision? Make booking private homes as easy as hotel rooms!

Milestones

So young and yet so much experience! Gloveler has always had a dynamic drive to innovation powering it, from its inception in 2007 to the successful tech-company it is today. After winning the University of Karlsruhe Entrepreneurship Competition, gloveler has captured the attention of several national and international judges, winning the following prizes:

  • 2007 newbizcup in Stuttgart
  • 2008 Founders’ Competition of Wirtschaftswoche Magazine
  • 2009 Multimedia Award from the German Ministry of Education and Research
  • 2011 Red Herring Europe Top 100
  • 2014 Statista Top 1000 Award
  • 2015 Computerbild TOP travel website
  • 2016 Netzsieger-Award

In 2009 our team jumped head-first into the market, officially establishing gloveler GmbH. By taking this leap of faith our founders took a rare step; most potential entrepreneurs shy away from founding, despite market-ready ideas and professional business plans.
