The capital city of Baden-Wuerttemberg is mostly associated with one aspect: expensive and fast cars. At last the traditional and well-known car manufacturers Daimler and Porsche have their head offices there. But Stuttgart, with its 600,000 inhabitants, represents the sixth largest town of Germany.

The typical location in a basin surrounded with hills lends a very green appearance to the town. The sweeping Schlossgarten reaches from the central station up to the old castle and offers good, relaxing walking paths away from the downtown area and shopping turmoil. The Königsstrasse, particularly crowded on weekends, offers everything that one could desire. If you go down the central shopping street a little further, you'll end up at the city centre. The art museum and the Neues Schloß are located here. Both are definitively worth a visit, even if you don't get to tour the entire castle.

Art museum at Schlossplatz: The art museum at the Schlossplatz was opened in 2005 and accommodates amongst others one of the most important collections of Otto Dix. Besides one finds works of the known artists Willi Baumeister, Adolf Hölzel, Dieter Roth, Dieter Krieg and Rebecca horn. The oustide of the museum is also known for its modern and innovative architecture which is dominated by a glass cube surrounding the entire museum. At night the cube is lit up and adds an impressive ambiance to the Schlossplatz.
Staatstheater Stuttgart: The Staatstheater was built from 1909 to 1912 and offers opera, play and ballet performances. The opera-house is known for its call and was already distinguished six times as "opera-house of the year". A visit is worth it any time.
Old/New castle: The first castle complex was already built around 950 and became residence of the counts of Wurttemberg in the 14th century. From 1553 to 1578 the dukes initiated the development of this castle in renaissance style which was known as the nicest renaissance court of Germany. At the same time, the construction of an equestrian statue was carried out by Blasius Berwart in 1560 and the inauguration of the castle church took place in 1562, as well as the building of the conference hall. Today the state museum of Wurttemberg is located in the southwest wing of the castle and the church also still resides on the castle grounds.
Porschemuseum: Porscheplatz 1 – Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. This address stands not only for a legendary car manufacturer but also for an impressive museum. In the beginning of 2009 the museum was opened. Here one can marvel at historical, breathtaking and exotic sports-cars. You can also learn a lot about the beginnings and the rise of the world-renowned sports-car brand. Finally the architecture of the building delights the eye by its elegant, modern form.
